AIA and HUD Accepting Entries for the 2016 Housing and Community Design Awards Program
Posted: 11/4/2015
The American Institute of Architects (AIA), in conjunction with HUD, recently announced that it has begun accepting entries for the 2016 Housing and Community Design Awards Program. AIA and HUD invite owners of structures and architects licensed in the United States to submit project designs of any size, budget, or style. Only projects completed after January, 1, 2011 will be considered for the awards. All entries must be submitted electronically before November 20, 2015 at 5:00 pm Eastern.

The awards program was created in 2013 to recognize design and planning excellence in four categories; affordable housing, community-based design, participatory design, and accessibility. Judges will use design quality as the main criteria for reviewing entries. However, judges will also consider sustainability, affordability, and innovation. Each category can only have one award winner, but, depending on the entries, an award may not be given out for each category.

The winning design entries will be published and publicized by HUD, appear in AIArchitect, AIA’s online newspaper, and be featured at AIA’s 2016 National Convention in Philadelphia, May 19-21.
