This week, SB 977 (Mazzei) was the topic of most discussions following its passage in Senate Finance Committee Tuesday. This bill places a two-year suspension on some of the most effective economic development programs in Oklahoma. Industries expanding job, creating housing and creating opportunities in Oklahoma have the rug pulled out from under their plans by this moratorium. Senator Mazzei presented the bill as an option for addressing the budget gap, however opponents of economic development incentives are using this budget hole as an excuse to further their political views, even at the expense of jobs and opportunities for Oklahomans in this tough economic time. SB 977 moves on to the full Senate for consideration where we will continue our fight. Please take some time to contact your Senator to express your opposition to this bill that threatens affordable housing for Oklahoma.
