Action Alert: Urge Your Members of Congress to Support Section 4 by April 4

Urge Your Members of Congress to Sign Section 4 Dear Colleague Letters

In the coming days, your advocacy is needed to ensure appropriators hear how important HUD’s Section 4 Capacity Building for Affordable Housing and Community Development program is for communities nationwide. Members in both chambers are now circulating "Dear Colleague" letters urging appropriators to provide level funding for Section 4 in fiscal year (FY 2018). Urge your Members of Congress to sign the Dear Colleague letters before COB Tuesday, April 4.

As Congress begins considering FY 2018 appropriations requests, it is critical that Section 4 maintains strong bipartisan support in both the House and Senate, especially in light of the President’s budget outline that proposes eliminating numerous housing programs, including Section 4. Section 4 strengthens low-income urban and rural communities across the nation by providing flexible support to local nonprofits to develop affordable housing, finance small businesses, revitalize commercial corridors, and help address local needs. Last month 1,156 organizations from all fifty states signed the Section 4 national sign-on letter urging Congress to level fund Section 4 at $35 million in FY 2017 and 2018. Take action now, and urge your Members of Congress to sign the Dear Colleague letters.

  • Senator Joe Donnelly (D-IN) is sponsoring a carlos_arredondo by COB Tuesday, April 4th to sign the letter.
