Fannie Mae introduces healthy housing rewards initiative for affordable multifamily properties

On May 23, Fannie Mae announced its Healthy Housing Rewards initiative, to provide a financial incentive for borrowers using healthy design features in newly constructed or rehabilitated affordable multifamily rental properties. To be eligible, properties must have features that improve air quality, encourage physical activity and incorporate common space, community gardens and playgrounds in affordable rental properties. Borrowers will have to demonstrate that their properties meet or exceed the minimum score of 90 points under the Center for Active Design’s Healthy Housing Index, as well as other affordability requirements from Fannie Mae.
