New study shows housing assistance improves access to health care

A new study in Health Affairs examines whether receiving HUD housing assistance is associated with improved access to health care. The authors analyzed data on nondisabled adults ages 18-65 who responded to the 2004-2012 National Health Interview Survey and were also linked with administrative data from HUD. The study found evidence that HUD housing assistance is associated with lower levels of uninsurance and unmet need due to cost.
