The city of San Francisco has moved its application and lottery process for affordable housing to an online portal. The new system centralizes information and processes that were previously dispersed across multiple nonprofits, city departments and leasing agents. Now applicants need only go to one place to look for housing options; the process also now has a streamlined application and faster lottery process. Applicants can still apply through a paper process, but since the new system was implemented, 85 percent of applications are being filled out online.
