Action Alert: Urge Congress to Fully Fund HOME

Urge Your Members of Congress to Fully Fund HOME

Tonight the House Appropriations Committee will markup the fiscal year (FY) 2018 Transportation, Housing and Urban Development (THUD) spending bill after the Subcommittee approved it last week. The bill provides $850 million for the HOME program, a $100 million reduction below FY17 funding levels. Thanks to the advocacy of the HOME Coalition, the funding cut was not as severe as it could have been, but given the urgent need for affordable housing across the country, any cuts to the HOME Program are not acceptable.

The Senate THUD Subcommittee will release its own funding legislation in the coming weeks, and right now is our opportunity to ensure that the Senate provides full funding for HOME in their spending bill. HOME has already been cut by 50 percent since 2010, and without persistent and vocal support from advocates and constituents, further cuts to the HOME Program may be realized in FY18. At this time, we encourage you to reach out to your Senators and Representatives and urge them to restore HOME funding to $1.2 billion. To assist you in your outreach, see the HOME Coalition page for:

If you have not already, we urge you to sign your organization on to this letter urging Congress to fund the HOME Program at $1.2 billion in FY18.

Thank you for your advocacy!
