Last week lawmakers announced plans for a Continuing Resolution (CR) to fund the government through December 7 while negotiations for a full fiscal year (FY) 2019 spending package continue. Earlier in the week, Congressional lawmakers reached an agreement on a finalized three-bill minibus that includes funding for the Department of Energy, Military Construction and Veterans Affairs. House Financial Services Committee Chairman Jeb Hensarling (R-TX) announced that the CR will be attached to a second minibus package that would fund the Department of Education, the Departments of Labor and Health and Human Services, as well as the Department of Defense. Currently it does not appear that the Transportation, Housing and Urban Development (THUD) appropriations bill will be completed before September 30, meaning that these departments will be temporarily funded at FY 2018 levels through December 7 as part of the CR. Enterprise urges Congress to pass the THUD appropriations bill as soon as possible and provide full funding for affordable housing and community development programs.
