Enterprise has released Home & Hope: Creating Early Learning and Affordable Housing Together as part of our Pacific Northwest market’s Home & Hope Initiative to accelerate the development of affordable housing with early learning centers on underutilized public and tax-exempt land in King County, Washington. The report guides users through the project development process for affordable housing that includes early learning centers – from site selection to finance, design and operation. Building upon the experience and expertise of designers, developers, educators, policy makers and funders, the report offers recommendations for improving the delivery of this type of mixed-use development, including calling for greater regulatory flexibility, promoting design creativity and unlocking much-needed capital. Enterprise and Futurewise – with support from the King County Assessor and funding from the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation – are also developing a mapping tool that will help stakeholders search for public and tax-exempt sites throughout King County.
